War Pony

I've been revisiting and reworking some older photos to create some new war pony images. This one features a friend's stallion, now sadly no longer with us.

Still working

As usual, not posting new images and not creating new images are totally unrelated. I've been working on photo based art images fairly steadily in the past few months, I just forget to share them. Mea culpa (getting to throw in a bit of Latin always elevates a situation.)

Thinking ahead to tourist season in the local stores that I supply, I've been revisiting some of my classic grain elevator images. Each version gets a number of different treatments in Photoshop as I work with it, something that is both a blessing and a curse as I can get very far down that rabbit hole. I've got a list of "new" elevators I want to shoot in the next few months, road conditions and weather permitting. As is common with my work of this type, the elevator and the background never met in real life.

Golden

I've been getting a few new images worked up from my extensive catalogue of images. I'll try to be a bit more diligent this year about posting work, but no promises. This one has travelled a fair distance from the original reference photo of one of the swans at the local zoo. I view my photos as the raw material for new works, rather than an end in themselves. I do love creating in Photoshop. 

Trees/Window

Contrary to appearances, I do actually generate new digital/photo images on a fairly regular basis---I just forget to post them anywhere that they can be seen. I've been in tree mode in the past few months, and this is one of the end results. 

Thoughtful

I spent some time yesterday revisiting an older image of my gelding, Alpac in thoughtful mode. Here is one of the end results. 

By the River

I have a great love of trees, branches, roots and bark. At this time of year my tree shots are mostly about texture and shape, there being no leaves around Saskatchewan in January, but I worked up this image from a summer shot just so I can remember it won't be winter forever.

 This is is a photo that has been reworked/reimagined in Photoshop. For my art images, the initial photograph is just a starting point. I don't usually know where I'm going when I set out, but I do know when I get there.

The Green Spider

I have a lot of nice flower photos, but being the way I am, I always feel the need to go a step or two farther with them. I'm happy with the way this one turned out, and will likely pursue this concept further when the time is right. The flower is a peony (one of my favourite flowers to photograph and to have in the garden) from the back yard. If you look at the lower middle you will see a little green spider hanging on to one of the petals. I never notice these little fellows when I am shooting, but they are included somewhere in a lot of my flower photos, as I come to realize only when looking at them on the computer. 

More trees

Trees seem to be gaining a bit more prominence in my recent photo image work. I have always loved trees, especially in the fall and winter when they show their strong shapes and structure, but have never done much artwork featuring them as the main subject matter. This seems to be changing of late. I wonder where this direction will take me next? 

Through the leaves

I have a fondness for images with stairs in them--some sort of unconscious symbolism at work in my head, I suspect. Here's one from a late summer shoot, reworked in Photoshop as a monochrome image. 

Looking for some green--

Cougar alert

Now that I've got some good reference shots of cougars, I'm working up some new images featuring them. Watch for more. If you are interested in purchasing a print, contact me. I don't yet have this one up on either of my websites as I'm waiting until I have a collection, then will start a new gallery. 

Rescued

Here's a brand new addition to my dog themed art images, title "Rescued". It features my own rescue Boxer, Rony. Check out the "Dogs" gallery on my Fine Art America website for more dog art. My share of the proceeds from all dog gallery sales on that site go to Boxer Rescue Canada to support the excellent work they do. 

Cliff Horses

This is a relatively new composition, merging a photo of group photo of horses greeting each other with a rock and lichen image. I'm happy with the way this one has evolved. It is available for sale in a variety of sizes and finishes (everything from photo paper to canvas or metal) on my new

Wide Awake

Here's one version of a new one I'm working on. I have a couple of other directions that are similar but different, whatever that means. This makes extensive use of my collection of vintage Victorian and Edwardian era graphics, with only the raven and the insects having been generated by my camera.  It has a vaguely Steampunk feel, or at least gives a nod in that direction, which in my world these days is a good thing.
